Andy Bennett MM013 - Steinway Adirondack & Flamed Mahogany
Overview
WOW! Andy Bennett, located in Manitou Springs, CO, built this guitar using 100+ year old Adirondack Spruce that was salvaged from a 1920's Steinway piano. The old growth Adirondack just looks and sounds different, and is matched with a phenomenal set of highly figured, flamed mahogany for the back and sides. This guitar features a round sound hole and x-bracing, offering a fantastic response-profile. The tone is sweet, powerful, and complex. It is fitting that this guitar evokes a "Baby Grand" sound profile!
From Andy Bennett:
I strung this "MM" Series guitar in June of 2025. The playbility is excellent and the sound of the guitar is strong and crisp with a good balance of bass, mid range and trebles. The top is 100 plus year old Adirondack spruce from a Steinway grand piano. The sides and back are Figured Honduras mahogany with Macassar ebony bindings and the neck is laminated mahogany with double acting truss rod. The "Port" in the upper bout side is my signature "Fleur de Lis" design. Fingerboard and peg head overlay are Macassar ebony with a "Fleur de Lis" design in abalone on the peg head and abalone teardrops down the fingerboard. Bridge is Brazilian Rosewood, and the top purfling is "Corral Snake" by Michael Gurian. The rosette is Honduras mahogany with ebony bars.
The finish is a wipe-on Watco Danish oil. The size of the instrument is very similar to a Martin OOO, and the shape is similar to a "Torres" classical shape. The top is X-braced. The tuners are Gotoh 510 chrome mini's. The scale is 25.7" with 14 frets to the body, 22 frets oberall and the nut width is 1 3/4".
Superior hard-shell case included.
